We started Docs’ Band with no expectation of how many songs we’d record.  So our Songs We’ve Recorded page seemed like the best way to keep things organized.  As we’ve grown our catalogue, we’ve seen that the earlier recordings are getting pushed farther down on the list.  With time, we created the Playlists page to give listeners an extended playing of our songs.  But we also wanted to give listeners a quicker way to look through our catalogue and find songs.  So that’s what’s on this page.  The page organizes our catalogue so you can find everything at one glance.  And the liner notes aren’t here so that you can more readily see the list of songs.

About the liner notes:  If you grew up in the era of vinyl LP albums and you were a musician or audiophile, the first thing you did before or while playing an album for the first time was to read the liner notes that came with the album.  Liner notes tell the story of the music, and they extend from listening appreciation to some understanding of the music and the musicians who create it.  These were originally printed on the paper liner of LP albums — which is why they were called “liner” notes.  Eventually, they were printed on the LP jacket or inserted into the album jacket as small pamphlets.  They were later included as inserted pamphlets in tapes and CDs, but the name “liner notes” stuck.  We’ll always include liner notes with Docs’ Band songs because we really enjoy reading them in other musicians’ materials.  Ours will remain on the Songs We’ve Recorded page.
